**Vijay Announces ₹20 Lakh Compensation for Karur Stampede Victims’ Families**

In a tragic turn of events during a rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, a stampede claimed the lives of 30 people and injured nearly 100 others. Actor-politician Vijay, the chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has announced a compensation of ₹20 lakh for the families of each deceased and ₹2 lakh for those injured in the incident.
Expressing his grief on social media, Vijay stated, “I am at a loss for words to express the pain my heart endures,” reflecting the deep sorrow felt over the tragedy.
The stampede occurred at a rally that was originally arranged for 10,000 attendees, but the crowd swelled to nearly 27,000. The situation deteriorated further when Vijay arrived almost seven hours late, causing a surge in the crowd.
**Government and Political Reactions**
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences and announced compensation of ₹2 lakh from the PM’s National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh for the kin of those who lost their lives. He also ordered a probe into the circumstances leading to the stampede, appointing retired judge Aruna Jagadeesan to head the investigation.
BJP leader K. Annamalai criticized the state government and police authorities for negligence, accusing them of failing to provide adequate security during the opposition’s event.
