The police investigation into the sexual harassment case against Chaitanyanand Saraswati has brought to light several disturbing details. The 62-year-old self-styled godman was arrested on Sunday in Agra after evading capture for nearly 50 days. Saraswati faces accusations of sexually harassing 17 students at a private institute and is currently charged with multiple offenses, including molestation, cheating, and forgery. Additionally, allegations of financial irregularities involving a trust worth ₹122 crore have surfaced against him.
**Evidence Uncovered**
During the probe, police discovered that Saraswati attempted to lure women with false promises. Investigators found his phone containing chats with several women, photographs featuring him with air hostesses, and screenshots of women’s display pictures. Two of his female aides are also under scrutiny for allegedly threatening victims to delete lewd messages as part of the cover-up.
**Uncooperative Suspect**
According to officials quoted by news agency PTI, Saraswati has been uncooperative throughout the investigation. He provided misleading information and showed no remorse for his alleged actions. Despite being confronted with supporting evidence, including documents and digital proof, Saraswati repeatedly lied and has been reluctant to respond during questioning.
While on the run, he frequently changed his appearance and hideouts to evade arrest. Over five police teams were mobilized to successfully trace and apprehend him.
**Developments: From Math to Management School**
Officials revealed that in 1998, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor allotted a plot in Vasant Kunj to Sharada Peeth for constructing a math (spiritual monastery). Saraswati was appointed as the senior official of this math. However, in 2008, he allegedly changed the institution’s name without permission to Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management.
Furthermore, a property belonging to the math was rented out without authorization. Authorities allege that Saraswati orchestrated a ₹40 crore fraud using falsified documents related to this property.
