Hollywood actor-director Jason Bateman is set to direct the upcoming film adaptation of John Grisham’s bestselling novel, *The Partner*. The movie will star Tom Holland as a junior attorney who fakes his own death to embezzle $90 million from a shady client, according to Variety.
The project is being produced by Universal Pictures, which recently took over development from New Regency. Bateman, known for directing films like *Bad Words* and *The Family Fang*, will also serve as an executive producer on the film.
Tom Holland not only stars in the lead role but will also produce the film through his production company, Billy 17, alongside Harry Holland and Will South. Additional producers include Jonathan Eirich for Rideback and Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films.
*The Partner* was originally published in February 1997 and quickly became a bestseller. The adaptation has been in development for several years. At one point, John Lee Hancock was attached to direct under New Regency before the project shifted to Universal Pictures.
Universal’s Senior Vice President of Production Development, Ryan Jones, along with Director of Production Development, Jacqueline Garell, will oversee the production. Legendary author John Grisham and David Gernert are also executive producing the film.
In addition to *The Partner*, Tom Holland is currently set to star in other notable projects including *The Odyssey* and *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*. Fans eagerly await seeing Holland take on this thrilling new role under Bateman’s direction.
