The much-anticipated collaboration between director Rajkumar Hirani and actor Ranbir Kapoor has been put on hold, according to a report by Mid-Day. The duo, known for their successful partnership in *Sanju* (2018), was gearing up to reunite for an exciting biopic project. However, insiders from the industry have revealed that this film has now been postponed to 2027 due to delays in the script development and Kapoor’s busy schedule.
### Project Delay: ‘Hirani Decided to Park It’
A trade source shared with the portal, “Hirani and Ranbir were very excited about this one; they had been jamming on it through the year. But since the script needed more time, Hirani decided to park it. Ranbir’s calendar is packed, so it made sense to regroup later. Everyone wants it to be like *Sanju*, so they’re okay to wait.”
### Hirani’s New Focus: The Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic
With the Kapoor-Hirani project on hold, Rajkumar Hirani has shifted his focus to an ambitious biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, starring Aamir Khan. This film is slated to go on floors in January 2026. An insider revealed that Khan has been rigorously preparing for this role, undergoing a transformation with a new look and participating in workshops.
This will mark Aamir Khan’s first portrayal of a real-life cinematic pioneer, and Hirani is committed to delivering the grandeur the story deserves.
### What’s Next for Ranbir Kapoor?
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor remains busy with major projects. He is currently working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s *Love & War* and the second part of Nitesh Tiwari’s *Ramayana*. Once these commitments are complete, Kapoor plans to choose between two highly anticipated films—*Dhoom 4* and *Animal Park*—both of which are in advanced stages of development.
Interestingly, Kapoor has previously appeared in a cameo role in Hirani’s *PK* (2014), which also featured Aamir Khan, showcasing a longstanding professional rapport among the trio.
