**Haryana IGP Y Puran Kumar Found Dead at Residence in Chandigarh**
_Chandigarh_: Haryana Inspector General of Police (IGP) Y Puran Kumar was found dead at his residence in Sector 11 on Tuesday afternoon, reportedly having shot himself.
According to the police, Kumar used his service revolver to take his own life. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Chandigarh, Kanwardeep Kaur informed the media that information about the suicide was received from House No. 116, Sector 11, at around 1:30 pm. Kumar, a 2001 batch Haryana cadre IPS officer, was first discovered by his daughter in the soundproof basement of the house.
Forensic experts and police teams have launched an investigation into the incident. The SSP confirmed that Kumar’s mobile phones, along with other articles and documents found at the scene, have been taken into custody for further examination.
Kumar’s wife, Amneet P Kumar, who is a senior IAS officer in the Haryana government, is currently in Japan as part of a delegation led by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini. She serves as the Commissioner and Secretary of the Foreign Cooperation Department in Haryana and is expected to return on Wednesday.
Prior to this, Kumar was serving as IGP of Rohtak range before being transferred a few days ago to the Police Training Centre in Sunaria, Rohtak. Notably, Kumar had recently raised concerns regarding the promotions of certain IPS officers.
His sudden death has sent shockwaves through police and administrative circles. Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports suggest that Kumar may have obtained the firearm from a gunman.
