Michael Provost’s Ryan Hart just can’t seem to catch a break on *9-1-1: Nashville*. In Thursday’s episode of the *9-1-1* spinoff, Ryan is served divorce papers, marking yet another challenge in his tumultuous life.
After surviving a tornado, it seemed like the 113 team might finally get a moment to catch their breath before the next disaster struck. However, the next “disaster” was none other than Ryan’s wife, Sam (MacKenzie Porter), who works as an ER nurse. Although Ryan is excited to see her at the firehouse, Sam’s expression tells a different story.
It is soon revealed that Sam wanted some space, which Ryan had given her—but space was not enough. Sam hands Ryan divorce papers, shocking him. Ryan expresses his love for her, but Sam explains that love has never been the issue. Their busy work schedules have placed strain on their relationship. While they make a great team on the job, their marriage faces serious problems.
Ryan wants to try to make things work again, but Sam insists that it’s time to move on and leaves the firehouse.
Starting the series not only with a three-part event but also storylines involving secret sons and relationship troubles was a risky move, but it has proven to be highly entertaining. With Ryan and Sam frequently crossing paths while on shift—including moments like when Don was rushed to the hospital—their interactions promise to be increasingly awkward.
As the season progresses, fans can likely expect to learn more about Ryan and Sam’s backstory, and there may even be a possibility of reconciliation. But for now, viewers will have to wait and see how it unfolds.
Meanwhile, Ryan’s streak of bad luck continues. After being served divorce papers, his dad was struck by lightning during a call. Don lost his pulse, forcing the team to divert to the hospital amid power outages. Throughout the journey, Ryan performed CPR, and by the time they arrived, Don had a faint pulse—enough to sustain hope.
Although Don’s survival seems likely, the aftermath remains uncertain. The upcoming episodes promise to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
