ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Macklin Celebrini scored an unassisted goal at 3:47 of overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 6-5 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday.
Celebrini, who also had two assists, gathered a loose puck in the San Jose zone after Yaroslav Askarov made a save on Brock Faber, raced in alone, and beat Jesper Wallstedt to seal the win. William Eklund scored twice, while Michael Misa, Ryan Reaves, and Tyler Toffoli also found the back of the net for the Sharks. Askarov finished the game with 28 saves.
Joel Eriksson Ek scored with 2:18 left in regulation to cap a three-goal third period for Minnesota. Kirill Kaprizov earned his third assist of the game on the goal, reaching 400 career points. Toffoli had given the Sharks a 5-3 lead with a power-play goal 7:52 into the third period, but Zeev Buium responded 36 seconds later with a shot that deflected off San Jose’s Ty Dellandrea, bringing the Wild within one.
Marcus Johansson, Marco Rossi, and Ryan Hartman also scored for Minnesota, which is now 1-4-2 in its past seven games. Wallstedt made 19 saves in the loss.
Eklund and Reaves scored 19 seconds apart in the second period to give San Jose a 4-2 lead—the second time the Sharks led by a pair of goals in the game. Eklund opened the scoring with an early power-play goal, and Misa notched his first career goal on a rebound seven minutes later to put San Jose ahead 2-0 in the first period.
Remarkably, the goals marked the 11th straight by San Jose in which either 18-year-old Misa or 19-year-old Celebrini factored in, dating back to October 21. This achievement marks only the second time in NHL history that teenagers have been involved in at least 11 consecutive goals for their team. The Edmonton Oilers hold the record with 13 straight goals from November 26 to December 7, 1980.
With a three-point game, Celebrini became the second teenager in league history to register at least 12 points through his team’s first five road games of a season. Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby holds the record with 13 points in 2006-07.
