Team India batter Shreyas Iyer made his first social media post since suffering a freak injury during the side’s third and final ODI of the recently concluded series against Australia. He sustained an impact injury to his lower rib cage region while completing a diving catch.
On Thursday, Iyer posted an Instagram story thanking fans for their warm wishes. He mentioned that his condition was gradually improving. India’s ODI vice-captain wrote, “I’m currently in recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I’m deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I’ve received. It truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Shreyas Iyer was hospitalized in Sydney following the injury. A medical update from the board revealed that scans showed a laceration injury to the spleen.
According to a Times of India report, Iyer had to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to internal bleeding. The star batter’s condition was life-threatening at one point, with his blood pressure dropping to alarmingly low levels. The report further stated that Iyer underwent a non-surgical procedure and is now in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team doctor has traveled to Sydney to monitor the 30-year-old player’s day-to-day recovery progress.
### Shreyas Iyer Expected to Miss Two Months of Action
Reports from Revsportz suggest that Shreyas Iyer is likely to remain sidelined for about two months due to his injury. This means he will miss India’s upcoming three-match home ODI series against South Africa, scheduled to begin on November 30.
It remains uncertain whether Iyer will regain full fitness in time for India’s subsequent ODI series—a three-match home series against New Zealand starting on January 11.
Before his injury, Iyer had contributed scores of 11 and 61 in the Australia tour. Australia won the series 2-1, thanks to their victories in the first two fixtures.
The cricketing fraternity and fans continue to wish Shreyas Iyer a speedy and full recovery.
