This 1976 Jeep CJ-5 was retrofitted with a 440ci V8 engine and a TorqueFlite 727 three-speed automatic transmission under prior ownership. The current seller acquired the vehicle in 2020.
In 2023, an extensive engine-out service was performed. This included fabricating and fitting a dual exhaust system with shorty headers, installing an Edelbrock carburetor, a high-output oil pump, an aluminum radiator equipped with electric fans, and replacing various components such as the timing set, timing cover, water pump, rear main seal, main and rod bearings, spark plugs with wires, and additional gaskets and seals. The distributor was also rebuilt during this service, which took approximately 42 hours to complete, according to records provided by the seller.
The Jeep’s exterior is finished in yellow and features a black bikini top along with a fold-down windshield. Additional exterior details include black wheel arch flares and dual side mirrors. However, it’s important to note that the headlights and taillights are currently not wired.
This CJ-5 rides on a lifted suspension paired with 15” wheels wrapped in 33×10.50” BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM tires. Braking is managed by front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The vehicle does not have a front driveshaft.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find bucket seats fitted with gray cloth covers; the seats are also shown without covers in the gallery images. The Jeep does not have seatbelts installed. A B&M floor shifter has been added for transmission control. The Grant GT steering wheel sits in front of a column-mounted tachometer, while a 140-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges are mounted to the right. The five-digit odometer shows mileage with several broken barrels between digits, so the true mileage is unknown.
The dual exhaust system fabricated in 2023 features shorty headers, Mopar mufflers, turn-down tailpipes, and Remflex gaskets. There is a noted exhaust leak near the oil pan.
The Jeep’s powertrain routes power to the rear wheels via the TorqueFlite 727 automatic transmission installed under prior ownership.
This CJ-5 is offered with a 2023 service record and an Arizona title in the seller’s name. The title lists the make as “KAIS” and the model as “LJ5,” with a mileage notation marked “Not Actual.”
Overall, this Jeep CJ-5 presents a solid platform with recent mechanical upgrades and plenty of potential for further customization or restoration.
