Intel has launched a lawsuit against a former employee accused of carrying out a serious act of corporate sabotage. According to Intel, ex-employee Jinfeng Luo copied approximately 18,000 files from the company’s corporate servers before disappearing.
The lawsuit, filed in Seattle District Court as reported by The Oregonian, alleges that the damages caused by Luo’s actions amount to around $250,000. Intel has made the filing in hopes that Luo may appear to address the claims.
Luo was reportedly among the employees scheduled for termination by the end of 2025. He was informed of his layoff on July 7, with his last official day at Intel set for July 31. Following this notification, Luo allegedly attempted to copy files from company hardware.
Initially, Luo tried to use an external drive on Intel’s systems but was locked out by security measures. However, about five days later, he is said to have successfully connected another storage device and copied roughly 18,000 files. Intel claims that many of these files contained “top secret” or “confidential” company information.
The unauthorized transfer prompted an internal investigation. Intel has since tried to contact Luo at three different addresses listed for him, but he has not been located at any of them, and his current whereabouts remain unknown.
Intel continues its efforts to ascertain exactly what information was taken and to hold the former employee accountable for the alleged breach.
