**Castro Valley Road Rage Incident Results in Fatality and Arrest**
A weekend road rage confrontation in Castro Valley ended tragically with one person dead and another arrested on suspicion of murder, authorities reported.
The incident occurred Saturday evening around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Wilbeam Avenue and Norbridge Avenue, according to a statement from Alameda County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Roberto Morales. Two cars crashed in the area, leading to the deadly confrontation.
The deceased was identified as 49-year-old Jason Elola. He was rushed to a hospital following the crash but later succumbed to his injuries. In an online fundraiser, Elola’s wife, Gabrielle, described him as a devoted father of nine children and “the heart of our family—a kind, generous, and loving man who brought laughter and warmth wherever he went.”
Following the incident, deputies arrested 37-year-old Martin W. Davis Jr. He was taken into custody at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, where he remained held without bail early Wednesday on suspicion of murder, according to jail records.
The sheriff’s office is leading the ongoing investigation. However, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was the first to respond to the crash scene. Sgt. Morales explained that CHP officers arrived following reports of a collision between two vehicles that may have resulted from a road rage incident.
At the scene, officers found Elola injured and provided medical treatment until paramedics transported him to the hospital. After the crash, Davis Jr. contacted the CHP’s non-emergency line to report his involvement. He was instructed to return to the scene, where he cooperated with investigators.
After taking over the case, the sheriff’s office determined that Davis Jr. and Elola had an unspecified physical confrontation linked to the road rage incident, leading to Davis Jr.’s arrest.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate and is seeking the public’s assistance. Anyone who witnessed the road rage incident or has video evidence is encouraged to contact Detective Jawad Hammad at 510-459-8095 or the sheriff’s office tip line at 510-667-3622.
