The Night Agent is on the move and closing in on a Season 4 renewal in the process. Netflix‘s popular action thriller, from Sony Pictures Television, has secured a $31. 6M (40%) California tax credit to relocate to Los Angeles, paving the way for a Season 4 greenlight. (A fourth season has not been officially ordered yet, with the writers room currently up and running.) Created by Shawn Ryan, The Night Agent filmed its first season, based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, in Vancouver, with Seasons 2 and 3 based in New York with additional location shoots in Thailand and Türkiye, respectively. The intention from early on had been for Season 4 to be set in Los Angeles contingent on the show landing a tax credit. (The Night Agent is done under Netflix’s broadcast-size budget model for modestly-priced dramas in the $5M an episode range after tax breaks.) Ryan is believed to be behind the idea for the move. He has a long history of filming in LA, from his first series as a creator, FX’s The Shield, through CBS’ The Unit and most recently, the Sony TV-produced S. W. A. T. for CBS. (Sony TV also recently secured a $15. 7M California tax credit for spinoff S. W. A. T. Exiles to also shoot in LA.) A new setting could help reinvigorate The Night Agent, whose plot in the first three seasons revolved largely around New York and Washington D. C. There is no premiere date set for Season 3; it is expected to debut in early 2026. An early Season 4 renewal for The Night Agent won’t be a surprise. Netflix similarly picked up Season 3 a couple of months before the Season 2 premiere, allowing the series to keep a yearly release cadence, a rarity for a streaming drama series. The Night Agent centers on Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), a low-level FBI agent recruited in the secretive Night Action organization, with every season telling a new story. In the first two seasons, Peter was accompanied by Rose Larkin, played by Luciane Buchanan who revealed to Deadline recently that she is not returning for Season 3. The upcoming third installment introduces new series regulars played by David Lyons, Jennifer Morrison, Stephen Moyer, Genesis Rodriguez and Callum Vinson. Ryan serves as showrunner. He and Marney Hochman executive produce for MiddKid Productions. Season 3 executive producers also include Seth Gordon and Julia Gunn with Exhibit A; James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Paul Neinstein and Nicole Tossou with Project X; Munis Rashid, Paul Bernard, Guy Ferland and Seth Fisher.
