The search for a missing fisherman, last seen fishing at the Wedge in Newport Beach on Christmas Eve, continued into its sixth day on Tuesday, December 30.
The fisherman has been identified by Garden Grove police as Lu Thu “Tyler” Tran, 42. Tran was visiting family in Southern California for the holidays from Reno, Nevada.
Fishing on December 24 in Newport Beach was not unusual for Tran, an avid fisherman, according to Sgt. Nick Jensen of the Garden Grove Police Department.
Tran’s family had been in contact with him that morning, but sometime later on December 24, they lost contact. Concerned, his family went to the Wedge to look for him.
At the location, they found Tran’s car and fishing equipment but were unable to locate him. Authorities were contacted that evening, and a search has been ongoing ever since.
Tran has not been seen since that day.
