Some big crossover sets were among the seven 2026 expansions revealed at MagicCon 2025. Wizards of the Coast kicked off one of the biggest weekends of the year for Magic: The Gathering in grand fashion. MagicCon: Atlanta featured a special preview panel announcing what’s next for the long-running card game.
There are a whopping seven expansions set to release in 2026, including some major crossovers. These exciting collaborations include another partnership with Marvel, a journey into the world of *The Hobbit*, and boldly going where no one has gone before with *Star Trek*.
The Wizards of the Coast team acknowledges that releasing seven expansions in one year is unusual and emphasizes that this will not be the standard going forward.
### 2026 Magic: The Gathering Expansion Schedule (Tentative)
**Lorwyn Eclipsed (January 23)**
The MTG year begins with a return to a fan-favorite setting. *Lorwyn Eclipsed* marks a trip back to the enchanting realm of Lorwyn. Fans can expect to see familiar creatures, as Planeswalkers team up with some Strixhaven students for a grander look at this strange and magical world.
**Untitled Universes Beyond (TBA)**
The second MTG set of 2026 remains a mystery. The curtain will be lifted on this expansion at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 10.
**Secrets of Strixhaven (April 2026)**
After journeying with Strixhaven students in *Lorwyn Eclipsed*, April’s set will return to their home academy—Strixhaven University. This expansion will explore life both on and off campus as graduates venture into the world to build their new lives.
**Marvel Super Heroes (June 2026)**
Following the recent success of the *Marvel’s Spider-Man* set, Wizards of the Coast continues its collaboration with the House of Ideas. This time, the game will explore other heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe, bringing even more iconic characters to the battlefield.
**The Hobbit (August 2026)**
More than two years have passed since Magic: The Gathering crossed over with *The Lord of the Rings*. Wizards of the Coast has now announced a new set inspired by *The Hobbit*. This expansion will feature recognizable characters like Bilbo Baggins and Smaug, diving deeper into Tolkien’s beloved world.
**Reality Fracture (October 2026)**
Wizards of the Coast is teasing a major narrative shift with this set. A mysterious villain promises to shake the world of Magic to its core. Details are scarce for now, but expect more information as the October release window approaches.
**Star Trek (November 2026)**
Earlier this summer, there was a circulating rumor—a fake story—about a Magic: The Gathering *Star Trek* set designed as a giant SEO stunt. As Commander Riker might say, it was fiction—but only at the time. There was some truth behind the rumor. To close out 2026, Wizards of the Coast officially plans to release a *Star Trek* set featuring characters, stories, and ships from across the franchise’s many eras. Fans can look forward to more details as the November release nears.
