Chris Jericho has generated significant excitement among wrestling fans amid major rumors of his potential WWE return. However, a beloved wrestling legend believes this move is unlikely to happen, despite the strong speculation surrounding Y2J’s future.
The aforementioned legend, Jim Ross, recently returned to AEW Dynamite and weighed in on Jericho’s status. Jericho has been absent from AEW television since April 2025. During his hiatus, multiple reports suggested that he would return to WWE, his previous promotion. After his current contract reportedly expired on December 31, many expected Jericho to make a comeback on the January 5, 2026 episode of WWE RAW — but that did not materialize.
Further updates indicate there is no internal memo hinting at The Lionheart’s departure from All Elite Wrestling. On a recent episode of *Grillin’ with JR*, WWE legend Jim Ross stated that Chris Jericho is happy in AEW and has a major influence within the company. Ross believes this makes it unlikely that Jericho will leave the promotion anytime soon.
“I think it’s WWE or nothing for [Chris] Jericho. He’s happy. He’s got a lot of influence in AEW, basically, to simplify, he books his own angles. He works with the creative guys, and they communicate well. Chris [Jericho] doesn’t come empty-handed; he always got a plan. But I think his goal, if it’s to leave AEW, he’s got a great deal. I’m under the impression he’s got a great deal, then I think it’s WWE or stay where he is,” Ross explained.

Meanwhile, wrestling veteran Vince Russo recently blasted AEW President Tony Khan for dodging questions related to Chris Jericho’s status. When Khan was asked directly about Jericho’s future in AEW, he sidestepped the question and gave a vague response instead.
Russo was critical of Khan’s approach, saying, “Tony Khan, man, bro, he just has a way of not answering questions. I’ve seen so many Tony Khan interviews, man, and if I’m a podcaster, I’m asking myself, ‘Why am I gonna interview this guy?’ because we know two things are going to happen. Number one, he’s not gonna answer any real question and number two, all he’s gonna do is put the show over to the point of nausea.”
With rumors continuing to swirl, it remains to be seen whether Chris Jericho will ultimately return to WWE or choose to remain a key figure in the AEW landscape. Wrestling fans will be watching closely for any official announcements in the coming weeks.
