Tariffs have defined the tech industry this year, causing massive changes to product pricing, manufacturing, and distribution. Despite this, one of the world’s biggest tech companies says that its hot new product isn’t actually being impacted by tariffs—even though prices have increased.
Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed the tariffs being imposed by former President Donald Trump during a conversation with CNBC’s Jim Cramer. “There’s no increase for tariffs in the prices, to be totally clear,” he said, making sure to place no blame on the tariffs for the price changes.
The iPhone 17 Pro, announced at an Apple Event earlier this month, starts at $1,099. This represents a $100 increase from the usual starting price of previous iPhone Pro models. Similarly, the iPhone Air—a brand new addition to Apple’s smartphone family—costs $100 more than the Air model it replaced.
Tim Cook emphasized that these price hikes do not come as a result of tariffs but did not provide an alternative explanation for the increases.
Recently, Tim Cook attended a dinner at the White House alongside other tech CEOs and Donald Trump, underscoring ongoing conversations between tech leaders and political figures.
