The Indian Navy is hosting the fifth edition of the Indo-Indonesian bilateral maritime exercise, **’Samudra Shakti 2025’**, from October 14 to 17 at Visakhapatnam, according to an official statement released on Wednesday. This exercise is part of ongoing efforts to enhance naval cooperation and interoperability between India and Indonesia, two key maritime nations in the Indo-Pacific region.
Participating ships include the Indian Navy’s **INS Kavaratti**, an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) Corvette, and the Indonesian Navy’s **KRI John Lie**, a Corvette equipped with a helicopter. Upon arrival at Visakhapatnam, KRI John Lie was warmly received by the Eastern Naval Command (ENC).
The exercise is structured into two phases: the **Harbour Phase** and the **Sea Phase**.
During the Harbour Phase, personnel from both navies are engaging in various activities such as cross-deck visits, joint yoga sessions, friendly sports matches, and expert exchanges on professional topics. These interactions are designed to build friendship and deepen professional understanding between the two naval forces.
Looking ahead to the Sea Phase, the navies will conduct a series of maritime operations to enhance tactical coordination. These operations include helicopter exercises, air defence drills, weapon firing exercises, and Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations. These complex drills aim to prepare both navies to operate seamlessly together in real-world maritime scenarios.
The **Samudra Shakti 2025** exercise underscores the strong maritime partnership between India and Indonesia and their shared commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
