**Man Sentenced to 11 Years for DUI Hit-and-Run That Killed Woman in Garden Grove**
SANTA ANA — A 37-year-old man was sentenced Friday to 11 years in prison for a DUI hit-and-run crash that killed a woman by crashing into her home in Garden Grove.
The vehicle, driven by Jadir E. Salazarmontano of Riverside, slammed into a house just before 2 a.m. on May 12, 2024. The crash occurred in the 11800 block of Magnolia Street, between Chapman and Orangewood avenues, according to police.
Janet Carillo, 40, was inside the home when the vehicle pinned her. She was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
After the crash, Salazarmontano fled on foot. However, witnesses reported his direction to police, who tracked him down nearby without incident.
On October 17, Salazarmontano pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges: gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08% or higher causing injury.
Additionally, he admitted to sentencing enhancements for fleeing the scene of a vehicular manslaughter and for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.
Salazarmontano’s sentencing marks a significant step in delivering justice for the tragic loss of Janet Carillo.
