The Democrat running for Nassau County district attorney is threatening to sue the state Republican Party over ads linking her to socialist Big Apple mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani, The Post has learned.
An attorney for candidate Nicole Aloise sent a “cease and desist” letter to the GOP Campaign Committee earlier this month, calling the ads “completely fabricated, false and defamatory.”
One of the adverts states, “Nicole Aloise stands with Mamdani.” Another shows images of Aloise and Mamdani side by side and dubs them “political twins.”
Aloise’s lawyer, Anthony Rattobali, threatened to file a defamation suit if the Republicans backing GOP incumbent DA Anne Donnelly refuse to stop publishing the ads.
“There is no source citation for this statement. It is completely fabricated, false, and defamatory,” Rattobali wrote in his October 10 letter. He also claimed the GOP lied about Aloise’s record on the state’s controversial bail reforms, the Rikers Island jail complex, and a disciplinary matter.
“Each of the above statements are false and defamatory and belied by facts that are readily available to you,” Rattobali said. “In addition, these statements were made in reckless disregard of the truth since they are contrary to the public record and were specifically done to harm Ms. Aloise’s reputation.
“Accordingly,” he added, “you are hereby directed to immediately cease and desist in republishing any of the foregoing statements, and if you do not, legal action may be taken without further notice.”
A state GOP spokesman dismissed the legal threat, saying Aloise and other Democrats are stuck with Mamdani — the Israel-bashing Democratic nominee for mayor.
“It would be funny if it wasn’t such a sad commentary on the state of the Democratic Party,” said the spokesman for state Republican Party chairman Ed Cox. “Democrats around the country and in New York, starting with Gov. Kathy Hochul, are going to have to answer for their support of an anti-Semitic, defund-the-police Hamas supporter,” the representative added.
While Hochul has endorsed Mamdani, Long Island Democrats — including Aloise — have distanced themselves from the left-leaning Queens state assemblyman and even repudiated him.
“Zohran Mamdani is the wrong choice for mayor and I disagree with him on cashless bail and defunding our police,” Aloise previously told The Post.
Responding to the allegedly false GOP attacks, Aloise’s spokesperson Ellen McCormick said: “With Donnelly’s record of driving out career prosecutors, rising crime, botched cases, breaking union contracts, and severed relationships with Nassau’s law enforcement, her only path left is to lie about her opponent.
“Nassau voters know better, and they deserve an honest District Attorney, not desperate smear tactics,” McCormick added.
