**NHRC Seeks FIR Against Ranbir Kapoor and Netflix Over Vaping Scene in ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood’**

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has reportedly called for legal action against actor Ranbir Kapoor and the streaming giant Netflix over a vaping scene in the web series *The Ba***ds of Bollywood*. The complaint centers around Kapoor’s portrayal of using e-cigarettes in the series without any accompanying health warning or disclaimer, which is alleged to be a violation of Indian law.
### Legal Action Recommended by NHRC
The NHRC has recommended filing First Information Reports (FIRs) against Ranbir Kapoor, the producers of *The Ba***ds of Bollywood*, the production company, and Netflix. This recommendation stems from the *Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019*, which prohibits the production, sale, and advertisement of e-cigarettes in India.
Additionally, the NHRC has requested an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) and the Mumbai Police regarding this matter.
### Public Health Concerns Raised
The complainant, Vinay Joshi of the Legal Rights Observatory, expressed concerns that the scene featuring Kapoor vaping without any warnings or disclaimers could potentially mislead young viewers or promote the use of banned substances. The NHRC has stressed the importance of taking “appropriate action” against such content on OTT platforms given its possible impact on impressionable audiences, particularly the youth.
### Scene Description and Context
The scene in question appears in one of the seven episodes of *The Ba***ds of Bollywood*, which features several Bollywood stars in cameo roles, including Ranbir Kapoor. In this particular episode, Kapoor’s character is shown using a vape after Anya Singh’s character refuses to become his manager and offers him her vape instead.
The complaint emphasizes that this portrayal was broadcast without any health warnings or disclaimers, raising concerns about influencing young viewers or encouraging illegal activity.
### Series Reception
Despite the ongoing controversy, *The Ba***ds of Bollywood* has been well-received by critics and audiences alike. The series marks the directorial debut of Aryan Khan and premiered on Netflix last week. Produced by Gauri Khan under the Red Chillies Entertainment banner, it features a star-studded cast including Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, Sahher Bambba, Mona Singh, and Gautami Kapoor.
Upon release, fans have enthusiastically engaged with the show, sharing memes and decoding the many Bollywood meta moments sprinkled throughout the series.
