**You Can Now Buy Prepaid Passes for Your Uber Rides**

*By Dwaipayan Roy | Sep 23, 2025, 08:02 PM*

Uber has introduced a new feature designed to help customers save money on their frequently traveled routes: prepaid passes. These passes are available in bundles of five, 10, 15, or 20 rides and offer varying discounts ranging from 5% up to 20%, depending on the number of rides purchased in advance.

**How Prepaid Passes Work**

When purchasing prepaid passes, customers select a one-hour request window during which they typically book rides. Uber then displays a countdown to let users know how many passes remain in their bundle. This system allows riders to manage their trips and savings more efficiently.

**Marketing and Pricing Strategy**

Uber plans to promote these prepaid passes by directly comparing the cost of a single ride to the cost when bought in bulk. For example, a ride from Lower Manhattan to Midtown in New York City usually costs around $19 but can surge to $30 during peak times. Customers who buy prepaid passes won’t have to worry about surge pricing, ensuring more predictable and affordable fares.

**Availability**

The prepaid passes feature has been launched in 75 cities, including Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, Los Angeles, and more, expanding access to riders across the country.

**Expansion of Price-Lock Feature**

In addition to prepaid passes, Uber is broadening the availability of its price-lock feature. This service allows customers to lock in a set price for up to 10 routes by paying a monthly fee of $2.99. If the regular fare on a given day is lower than the locked-in price, customers will be charged the lower amount.

Originally available only in select cities, this price-lock option is now accessible in all major US cities as well as in Brazil, offering riders greater control over their travel expenses.

With these new features, Uber aims to provide more affordable and predictable pricing options to meet the needs of frequent riders.
