OpenAI’s TikTok-like app for AI-generated videos is coming soon

**OpenAI’s TikTok-Like App for AI-Generated Videos Launching Soon**

*By Mudit Dube | Sep 30, 2025, 11:17 AM*

OpenAI is preparing to launch a new app dedicated to its advanced video generation AI model, Sora 2. The app features a vertical video feed with swipe-to-scroll navigation, offering an experience similar to TikTok. However, all content on this platform will be entirely AI-generated, setting it apart from traditional social media video apps.

### App Capabilities

Users will be able to create video clips up to 10 seconds long using OpenAI’s Sora 2 technology. Notably, the app does **not** support uploading photos or videos from users’ camera rolls or other applications. Instead, videos are generated directly by the AI model.

A unique feature of Sora 2 is its identity verification system, which allows users to verify their likeness securely. Once verified, users can incorporate their own likeness into AI-generated videos.

### User Interaction & Notifications

If a user’s likeness is utilized in any video, they will receive a notification—even if the video is still in draft form and has not been posted publicly. This approach aims to increase transparency and control over personal image usage.

Sora 2 was launched internally at OpenAI just last week, and it has received enthusiastic feedback from employees. The app’s engaging experience has been so compelling that some managers humorously joked it could become a productivity challenge.

### Market Rivalry in AI Video

OpenAI’s Sora 2 app enters an increasingly competitive arena for AI-generated video content. Tech giants like Meta and Google are also ramping up efforts in this space.

– Last week, Meta introduced **Vibes**—a new feed within the Meta AI app dedicated to creating and sharing short AI-generated videos.
– Earlier this month, Google announced it is integrating a custom version of its video generation model, **Veo 3**, directly into YouTube.

These developments highlight the escalating battle for dominance in AI-driven video creation and sharing.

### Content Regulations and Copyright Challenges

With the rise of AI-generated content, platforms are becoming more cautious. TikTok recently updated its guidelines to ban misleading or harmful AI-generated videos explicitly.

Similarly, OpenAI’s Sora 2 app employs filters that often refuse to generate videos if copyright protections or other restrictions might be violated.

OpenAI is currently facing multiple lawsuits concerning alleged copyright infringements. One notable case filed by *The New York Times* accuses OpenAI of training its models on copyrighted materials without permission.

OpenAI’s new Sora 2 app promises to revolutionize the way short-form, AI-generated videos are created and consumed. As it prepares for public release, the evolving landscape of AI video technology and the accompanying legal debates will be crucial to watch.
