The police investigation into the sexual harassment case against Chaitanyanand Saraswati has uncovered disturbing details. The 62-year-old self-styled godman was arrested on Sunday in Agra after evading authorities for around 50 days. He stands accused of sexually harassing 17 students at a private institute and faces multiple FIRs related to molestation, cheating, and forgery. Additionally, allegations of financial irregularities involving a trust worth ₹122 crore have surfaced.
**Unveiling the Evidence**
During the probe, police discovered that Saraswati tried to lure women with false promises. His phone contained chats with several women, photographs of him with air hostesses, and screenshots of women’s display pictures (DPs). Two of his female aides, allegedly involved in threatening victims to delete lewd messages, are currently being questioned as part of the investigation.
**Uncooperative Suspect Shows No Remorse**
According to officials quoted by news agency PTI, Saraswati has been uncooperative with investigators. He has provided misleading information and shown no remorse for his actions. Despite being confronted with evidence, including documents and digital proof, he has repeatedly lied during questioning. While on the run, Saraswati reportedly changed his appearance and shifted hideouts, forcing police to deploy over five teams to track him down.
**From ‘Math’ to Management School: The Fraudulent Transition**
Officials revealed that in 1998, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor allotted a plot in Vasant Kunj to Sharada Peeth for constructing a math (monastic establishment), with Saraswati appointed as its senior official. However, in 2008, he changed the institution’s name without permission to Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management. Moreover, a property belonging to the math was rented out without authorization. Authorities allege that a fraud worth ₹40 crore was committed using falsified documents related to these transactions.
The investigation into Chaitanyanand Saraswati’s misconduct and financial irregularities continues as police seek justice for the victims and greater transparency around the sprawling trust’s activities.
