**Russia, Belarus May Stage False Flag Attacks on Poland: Think Tank Warns**

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has issued a warning that Russia, in collaboration with Belarus, may be preparing to carry out false flag attacks targeting Poland’s critical infrastructure and subsequently blame Ukraine for these actions.
This alert from ISW is based on recent statements by Russian officials and the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), who have made unsubstantiated claims that Ukraine plans to attack Poland and Romania. These accusations cite sources from Hungary—a country heavily dependent on Russian energy imports and considered a close ally of Moscow.
### Russia Setting the Stage to Shift Blame
According to the ISW, a statement released by the SVR on September 30 suggests that Russia is creating an information environment designed to hold Ukraine responsible for any attacks Russia itself might conduct against Poland or other NATO member states.
In addition, ISW highlighted remarks made by Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova on September 26, where she accused Ukraine of planning false flag drone strikes on Poland and Romania.
### Rising Tensions and Airspace Violations
The ISW’s warning comes amid escalating tensions between Russia and various NATO countries. Poland, Estonia, and Romania have all accused Russia of repeatedly violating their airspace using fighter jets and drones. Notably, Poland intercepted and shot down multiple Russian drones within its territory on September 9. Meanwhile, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden have reported drone sightings near their borders, raising further concerns across the region.
### Accusations of Ukrainian Sabotage Plans
Maria Zakharova has previously alleged that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy orchestrated these plans to provoke a war between Russia and NATO. She described purported Ukrainian actions including the retrieval of downed Russian drones, rearming them with combat warheads, and launching them against major NATO transportation hubs disguised as ‘Russian’ drone attacks.

As the situation develops, NATO members remain on high alert amid fears that false flag operations could be used as a pretext for further escalation in the region.
