US National Guard Soldier Charged for Attempting to Send 3D-Printed Gun Parts to al-Qaeda

Andrew Scott Hastings, 25, has been charged after allegedly attempting to ship 3D-printed gun parts to an agent posing as an al-Qaeda contact, the Justice Department announced.

The case highlights the potential misuse of emerging technologies such as 3D printing, which can be exploited to create untraceable firearm components.

Authorities discovered that Hastings attempted to send these parts through the mail, aiming to provide weaponry to a terrorist organization. The investigation was part of a broader effort to prevent the distribution of illegal firearms and related components to extremist groups.

Further details about the case and ongoing investigations are expected to be released as the legal process continues.
