**“Why no panel for Manipur?”: Stalin Questions BJP’s Karur Fact-Finding Mission**

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for sending a delegation of opposition MPs to Karur following a tragic stampede at a rally led by TVK chief Vijay, which claimed 41 lives.
Stalin questioned the BJP’s selective approach, pointing out that no such fact-finding panels were dispatched to BJP-ruled states like Manipur, even after severe ethnic violence, or during the massive stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh. He accused the BJP of political motivations behind their actions, rather than genuine concern.
**BJP’s Visit Politically Motivated, Claims Stalin**
According to Stalin, the BJP’s decision to send a delegation to Karur was “not due to care for Tamil Nadu, but due to the election” scheduled for next year. He also criticized Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s visit to Karur, calling it merely a “representative” appearance by the central government.
Stalin highlighted the central government’s neglect during past crises in Tamil Nadu: “When Tamil Nadu witnessed three major natural disasters, the Union Finance Minister did not care to visit the state. Instead, she came to Karur. The BJP is a parasite surviving by sucking the blood of others.”
**Delegation Visit and Reactions**
The BJP’s eight-member delegation, led by actor and MP Hema Malini, visited Karur to meet the families of the victims. Speaking to the media afterward, Malini criticized the Stalin government for not providing a larger venue for the rally. She remarked, “For a star of his stature, it was unfair. Many women and young girls had come to see Vijay.” Malini added that the TVK had requested more space for the event.
**BJP Demands Report from Stalin Government**
Amid ongoing tensions between the Tamil Nadu government and the central administration over fund disbursement, the BJP delegation demanded a report from Stalin detailing the primary factors that led to the stampede. Notably, the party has no legal or constitutional authority to seek such a report.
Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur also wrote to Stalin, inquiring about measures taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In response, Stalin announced that a judicial inquiry would be conducted, led by retired Justice Aruna Jagadeesan. He also promised that new safety guidelines would be implemented for future political events to avoid such tragedies.
