**BJP Reaches Out to Vijay’s TVK Following Karur Stampede Tragedy**

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reportedly reached out to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the aftermath of the tragic stampede that occurred at a rally in Karur on September 27. The incident, which resulted in 41 fatalities, has been attributed to overcrowding and alleged mismanagement.
TVK, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has been openly critical of both the Dravidian major parties — the DMK and the BJP — during his rallies. Nonetheless, the BJP is now seeking to leverage Vijay’s immense popularity to bolster its position ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

### Political Strategy: National Parties Eye Tamil Nadu
Senior BJP leaders have assured the TVK of their support should the DMK unfairly target Vijay and his party over the tragedy. The Congress party has also reached out to TVK, signaling that national parties view this incident as an opportunity to make significant political inroads in Tamil Nadu.
The BJP contends that the blame for the stampede lies with the DMK government’s negligence, emphasizing that Vijay alone should not be held responsible. The party believes that with Vijay’s backing, TVK could influence voters and emerge as a key player in the upcoming polls.
However, BJP remains cautious about upsetting its alliance with the AIADMK, which it considers crucial for expanding its influence in southern India.

### Accusations and Criticism
In a sharp exchange, DMK chief MK Stalin accused the BJP and the central government of exploiting the Karur tragedy for political gain ahead of elections. Stalin questioned why delegations were dispatched to Karur but not to other sites of national tragedies.
The DMK’s mouthpiece, *Murasoli*, also criticised Vijay for his video statement challenging state authorities to arrest him, labeling it as arrogant and a mere publicity stunt.

### Realignment and Political Concerns
In its efforts to strengthen its foothold in Tamil Nadu, the BJP is attempting to repair relations with the AIADMK and initiate alliance discussions. However, there are growing concerns within BJP circles about whether AIADMK still possesses the political strength required to effectively challenge the DMK-led coalition.
A senior BJP leader noted that Tamil Nadu’s current political landscape differs significantly from the past, particularly in the absence of charismatic AIADMK leadership that once drew widespread support.

As the 2026 assembly elections approach, all eyes remain on how these political maneuvers involving BJP, TVK, AIADMK, and DMK will shape Tamil Nadu’s political future.
