**‘Humble Actor, Not a Star’: Pankaj Kapur Calls Himself ‘Middle-Class’**
*By Isha Sharma | October 4, 2025, 04:03 PM*

Veteran Bollywood actor Pankaj Kapur recently opened up about his career and personal life in an exclusive interview with SMTV. The acclaimed actor revealed that while he is “99.9% content” with his work, he does feel a twinge of dissatisfaction for not being offered lead roles like some mainstream stars.

Despite this, Kapur continues to lead what he describes as a “good, middle-class life” in Mumbai, embracing humility over celebrity status.

**Career Reflection: A Middle-Class Life in Mumbai**
Kapur candidly shared, “I lead a good, middle-class life in Bombay. I am a humble actor, not a star. I am so grateful for the abilities that I have been bestowed with. They have helped me lead a respectable life.”

He acknowledged that he does not earn as much as some of his contemporaries. However, his selective approach to work means he has never taken on an overwhelming number of projects, prioritizing quality over quantity.

**Contentment Over Materialism**
When asked about his aspirations, Kapur stated, “I never wanted what others wanted. All I wanted was to be able to act, and that I did. I never wanted six cars and 12 houses. I have enough.”

He added with a smile, “I have gone with the flow. Not to say that I have been foolish and turned down work when I needed the money, because I have done work for money as well.”

**Reflecting on a Rich Career**
Looking back on his journey, Kapur credited much of his success to the unwavering support of his father, who encouraged his dream of becoming an actor in Mumbai.

Pankaj Kapur’s impressive filmography includes critically acclaimed films such as *Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro*, *Ek Doctor Ki Maut*, *Maqbool*, and *Raakh*. On the small screen, he is fondly remembered for his iconic roles in popular shows like *Office Office* and *Karamchand*.

Through his honest reflections, Pankaj Kapur remains a humble figure in Indian cinema — an actor proud of his craft and content with the life he has built.
