**Chilling Honour Killing Case in Ratibad Solved Through Unexpected Lead**
*Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh):*
A horrifying case of honour killing that shook the Ratibad area in November 2021 has finally been solved, thanks to an unexpected lead arising from a nuisance call complaint.
During the Diwali festivities, on the forested outskirts of Samasgarh, a chilling discovery was made. On November 14, 2021, the decomposed bodies of a woman and her eight-month-old child were found. Both bore signs of sexual assault and strangulation, with their faces beyond recognition. Initially, the police were clueless about the identity of the perpetrators.
**Breakthrough from a Nuisance Call Complaint**
The breakthrough came from a seemingly unrelated nuisance call complaint. The 25-year-old victim, a resident of Bilkisganj, had married against her family’s wishes nearly a year prior, angering her father, 55-year-old Kamal. Investigations revealed that Kamal had plotted this heinous crime in response.
According to investigation officer Sudhesh Tiwari, who was then the in-charge of Ratibadh police, Kamal exploited the recent death of his granddaughter, who had succumbed to pneumonia, to carry out his plan. In November 2021, Kamal, accompanied by his son, lured the woman and her deceased infant into the Samasgarh forest under the pretext of burying the child.
Once in the forest, Kamal confronted his daughter, accusing her of dishonouring the family. He then sexually assaulted and strangled her. Following the murder, Kamal confessed to both his son and elder daughter that he had killed her for bringing dishonour to the family.
**Identification and Arrests**
After the bodies were found and identified, the victim’s sister disclosed the full truth to the police, which led to the arrest of Kamal and his son. Subsequent interrogations uncovered the entire gruesome extent of the crime.
**How a Nuisance Call Helped Crack the Case**
The investigation took an unexpected turn thanks to a neighbor’s complaint. The victim had used her neighbor Radheyshyam’s phone at her sister’s home to call her husband just prior to her disappearance. When the victim went missing and her phone went unanswered, her husband repeatedly called Radheyshyam’s number. Frustrated by the persistent calls, Radheyshyam lodged a complaint about the nuisance calls.
This complaint prompted police to investigate the connection between the calls and the unidentified bodies found in Samasgarh. Radheyshyam’s recollection that the victim had used his phone helped police confirm the identities. As a result, the case was cracked on November 17, 2021.
This tragic incident highlights the dark consequences of rigid social norms and the critical role that even small leads like a nuisance call complaint can play in solving complex crimes.
