**DGCA Encourages Airlines to Add Flights to Keep Ticket Prices in Check Amid Festive Season Surge**
As passenger demand surges during the festive season, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken proactive measures to ensure ticket prices remain reasonable. The move aims to manage the spike in passenger traffic that typically occurs in India from Dussehra through to Chhath.
**Flight Additions to Meet High Demand**
To cater to the increased demand, the DGCA has requested airlines to deploy additional flights throughout the festive period. IndiGo plans to operate approximately 730 extra flights across 42 sectors, while Air India and Air India Express will collectively add around 486 flights spanning 20 sectors.
SpiceJet is also stepping up its operations by scheduling 546 additional flights across 38 sectors, ensuring passengers have more options during this busy time.
**Airline Response and DGCA Oversight**
A senior DGCA official stated, “We are ensuring that airlines operate enough flights to meet the surge in demand and that ticket prices remain reasonable during the festive period.” The DGCA will closely monitor both airline fares and flight capacities to protect passengers’ interests as travel volumes increase.
**Impact of Fuel Prices on Ticket Costs**
Adding to the challenge of maintaining stable ticket prices is the rising cost of Air Turbine Fuel (ATF), which comprises over 50% of an airline’s operational expenses. Over the past four months, ATF prices have increased by approximately ₹12,000 per kiloliter.
While a discount of ₹1,300 was provided last month, the overall trend indicates steady price hikes ranging from ₹100 to ₹1,000 at a time. This persistent rise in fuel prices is expected to influence ticket pricing during the upcoming festive season.

Travelers are advised to book early and stay informed about flight options as airlines adjust their schedules to accommodate the holiday rush. The DGCA’s vigilant monitoring aims to ensure a balanced market benefiting both passengers and airlines throughout this busy period.
