United States President Donald Trump has reportedly urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to adopt a more positive outlook as peace talks with Hamas appear to progress. After two years of conflict in Gaza, signs suggest the long-standing war could be nearing an end, with Hamas partially accepting Trump’s peace proposal.
However, Netanyahu remained cautious and less optimistic during discussions. According to a report by Axios, the Israeli leader told Trump there was “nothing to celebrate” and that the development “doesn’t mean anything.”
### Trump Sees Opportunity Amidst Skepticism
Despite Netanyahu’s reservations, President Trump viewed Hamas’s response as a potential opening for negotiations. A US official familiar with the conversations revealed that Trump expressed his frustration with Netanyahu’s negativity, reportedly saying, “I don’t know why you’re always so f***ing negative. This is a win. Take it.”
Trump had feared that Hamas might outright reject his peace plan, so the actual response encouraged him about the prospects of a deal.
### Calls for Immediate Ceasefire
Following his call with Netanyahu, Trump requested Israel to halt its airstrikes in Gaza. Remarkably, Netanyahu agreed to the ceasefire within three hours. In an interview with Axios, Trump expressed optimism, stating, “We are close” to a peace agreement and plans to finalize it soon.
“I said, ‘Bibi, this is your chance for victory.’ He was fine with it. He’s got to be fine with it. He has no choice. With me, you got to be fine,” Trump added on Saturday.
### Upcoming Negotiations in Egypt
Delegations from Hamas, Israel, and the United States are scheduled to meet in Egypt for further talks. President Trump has urged all negotiators involved to “MOVE FAST” to end the war and secure the release of captives.
Hamas’s lead negotiator, Khalil al-Hayya, will meet with mediators from Egypt and Qatar in Cairo, with additional discussions planned in Sharm El-Sheikh, according to Agence France-Presse.
As these developments unfold, hopes for a peaceful resolution to the Gaza conflict are rising, though challenges remain ahead.
