**OpenAI Could Soon Bring Disney and Marvel Characters to Sora Videos**

*By Mudit Dube | Oct 06, 2025, 11:12 PM*

OpenAI is preparing to introduce collaborations featuring fictional characters on its Sora platform. Bill Peebles, head of the Sora team at OpenAI, confirmed that cameos—appearances of fictional characters in videos—are “on the roadmap.”

This announcement coincides with CEO Sam Altman’s revised approach to the company’s previously controversial opt-out copyright policy for video generation. Under the new plan, creators will have a sanctioned mechanism to feature copyrighted characters legally, rather than relying on unlicensed or automated inclusion.

### Policy Changes: More Control for Rightsholders

Altman has promised rightsholders “more granular control” over how their content is used on Sora. The new system will resemble an opt-in model for using one’s likeness but will include additional controls to protect intellectual property.

This change comes after a series of unauthorized and controversial content surfaced on the platform, such as meth-cooking and Nazi-themed SpongeBob videos, which raised significant copyright and ethical concerns.

### Monetization Strategy: Revenue Sharing for Creators

In addition to the policy updates, Altman hinted at an upcoming revenue-sharing model for rightsholders whose characters are used on Sora. He stated that this initiative would “start very soon,” though he acknowledged that the exact payment structure might require some experimentation to perfect.

This strategy forms part of OpenAI’s broader effort to address copyright issues and create a more sustainable environment for content creation. With these changes, OpenAI aims to compete effectively against platforms like Meta and TikTok by enhancing its AI-driven social video platform.

Stay tuned as OpenAI takes significant steps toward integrating popular media characters responsibly and innovatively within the AI video space.
