**Bhopal Police to Lock Dilapidated Buildings Ahead of Durga Puja Festivities**
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a proactive move to ensure public safety during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, police authorities in Bhopal will lock around 50 dilapidated buildings in the old city. This measure aims to prevent people from gathering on balconies and rooftops during Durga Puja ‘jhankis’ (processional tableaux) and processions, mitigating the risk of structural collapses due to crowd weight.
These vulnerable structures were identified through a joint survey conducted by the police in collaboration with the Nagar Nigam. Authorities fear that overcrowding on these unstable buildings could lead to tragic casualties, prompting the decision for preventive lockdowns.
As part of foolproof arrangements for the festival, the police are actively engaging with Durga Puja committees, DJ operators, and other concerned groups through a series of coordination meetings. These efforts are designed to ensure smooth and safe celebrations across the city.
In addition, individuals identified as potential troublemakers have been placed under precautionary bonds to maintain law and order during the festivities.
Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra stated that additional forces will be deployed, with police personnel stationed at every procession and ‘jhanki’ to maintain security and crowd control. Furthermore, social media monitoring will be intensified to prevent the spread of rumors and false information. He emphasized that strict action will be taken against those spreading fake news aimed at inciting communal tensions.
This year, Bhopal is set to host 63 ‘jhankis’, showcase 1,569 Durga idols, facilitate activities at 15 immersion ghats, and organize 45 garba events. Comprehensive crowd management, traffic diversions, and surveillance at sensitive points form an integral part of the security arrangements.
Residents and visitors are advised to cooperate with authorities and adhere to safety guidelines to enjoy a secure and joyous Durga Puja festival.
