**Protest Against ICE Immigration Enforcement Actions Continues in Chicago**
CHICAGO (WLS) — Another protest against the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement actions took place Friday outside an ICE facility in Broadview, Chicago. Organizers say they plan to hold weekly demonstrations at the boarded-up facility as long as “Operation Midway Blitz” remains underway.

Protesters gathered early Friday, and there were tense moments between the crowd and ICE agents, during which pepper balls were fired at demonstrators. ICE officers were seen taking two protesters into custody after demonstrators attempted to block vehicles from leaving the facility.
Alderman Andre Vasquez commented on the situation, saying, “We have here a federal government that is actively working against its people, that is doing everything possible to divide them. They are building the same system that they are going to use for everyone else.”
This Friday’s protest follows a similar event last week, when video footage appeared to show ICE agents using pepper balls on demonstrators outside the same facility. Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss was in the crowd during the earlier protest and reported that tear gas had also been fired.
**Recent ICE Arrest at Elgin Community College**
ABC7 is aware of a recent ICE arrest involving a student at Elgin Community College. Federal agents allegedly took an undocumented student into custody in a parking lot outside a main campus building.
Advocates have expressed concern over ICE’s tactics near Chicago, especially with this enforcement activity reportedly reaching college campuses. A student, speaking anonymously, shared their worries: “I feel like students should be allowed to feel safe and this should stop happening on college campuses.”
Dan Kernler, President of the Elgin Community College Faculty Association, responded to the incident, writing, “Our campus community is in shock today. College students and their families should never be separated just because they came to class. Detaining students on campus creates lasting harm and has no place in our communities. Learning and growth can only happen without fear.”
ABC7 has reached out to ICE for comment regarding the student detained at Elgin Community College but has not yet received a response.
