Shae Cornette’s husband had a cryptic response to her landing the “First Take” host job.
Jordan Cornette, who has been married to the ESPN personality since 2019, took to social media to congratulate his wife and seemingly throw shade at those who “never made it easy.”
“They never made it easy for her,” he wrote on X on Thursday. “Beyond wild stuff. And yet she still won. Never played their game. Played hers. True boss behavior. They are lucky. You can’t keep a star down. She is a force of nature and won’t be denied. Beyond proud of my Schway.”
Jordan, a former Notre Dame basketball player, is a college basketball analyst at NBC and will serve as a sideline NBA reporter this upcoming season. The couple shares two children together.
Cornette was recently announced as the new host of ESPN’s most popular daytime show, “First Take,” replacing Molly Qerim, as reported by Front Office Sports on Thursday. This came after a month-long tryout period.
“Thank you for all the support. Excited for this next chapter!” Cornette wrote, announcing her debut will be on November 3.
Qerim abruptly quit the show and ESPN in September after hosting “First Take” for 10 years.
“After much reflection, I’ve decided it’s time to close this incredible chapter and step away from First Take,” Qerim wrote on Instagram. “Hosting this show has been one of the greatest honors of my career. Every morning, I had the privilege of sharing the desk with some of the most brilliant, passionate, and entertaining voices in sports and with all of you, the best fans in the world.”
At 39, Cornette currently anchors afternoon editions of “SportsCenter” and hosts other ESPN programming on both TV and radio.
She credits her husband Jordan for helping her land a job at the World Wide Leader.
“Jordan is the reason I am at ESPN,” Shae said in a February 2024 profile with Westport Magazine. “He basically begged ESPN to give me a shot on a radio show with him and then we never looked back. He has always believed in me, and I am forever grateful that he is my person.”
