I recently presented WordLand publicly for the first time—the new version featuring a timeline. This update clearly demonstrates how we can build a beautiful social network entirely based on open formats and protocols.
One of the key principles behind WordLand is that there is no user lock-in. Every part of the system is replaceable, and it’s open to developers who want to add functionality without having to reimplement the whole platform. I believe these are some of the biggest obstacles that have held back innovation on the web for many years.
A social network that launches with no centralization and is open in every sense has a much better chance of being truly decentralized. This stands in contrast to networks that start out centralized and only promise to decentralize “someday”—a promise often left unfulfilled. With WordLand, the focus is on building openness and decentralization from the very beginning.
