In the original Kirby Air Ride, there was a silly and light mode known as Top Ride that gave players a top-down racing experience, reminiscent of classics like Off Road and Super Off Road. Fans will be happy to know that Top Ride is making a return in Kirby Air Riders, featuring quite a few upgrades to enhance the fun for up to eight players.
Top Ride was a major highlight at the start of today’s Kirby Air Riders Nintendo Direct. In this mode, players race around tracks with the camera set at an overhead view. The camera can dynamically follow a single player, scan across groups, or even show the entire track when many racers are competing.
One of the biggest improvements is that Top Ride now supports up to eight racers. You can race solo against seven bots, enjoy local multiplayer with four players on the same Nintendo Switch, or go online and compete with up to eight players. If there aren’t enough humans to fill the slots, computer-controlled bots will step in to keep the races exciting.
Kirby Air Riders promises to be an interesting and entertaining Kirby party game. Whether you prefer the traditional races in Air Ride, a battle royale-style experience in City Trial, or the revamped Top Ride mode, there are plenty of options for players to enjoy.
Having had the chance to try early versions of the game, we came away optimistic about how Kirby Air Riders is shaping up. It looks set to offer a fun and varied experience that Kirby fans and newcomers alike can enjoy.
