The late singer Zubeen Garg had once expressed a heartfelt wish: he wanted people to sing his iconic song *Mayabini* after his death. The 52-year-old artist, who passed away on Friday in Singapore after suffering a seizure while swimming, called the popular 2001 track his “fantasy.” The song also features vocals by Kalpana Patowary and holds a special place in the hearts of many.
### The Significance of ‘Mayabini’
In a poignant old video shared on Instagram by Just Assam Things, Garg said, “*Ei gaan tu mur fantasy hoy. Moy jetia morim, gutei Axom’r ei gan tu gaabo lagibo*” – which translates to “This song is my fantasy. When I die, entire Assam has to sing this song.”
In another clip, shared by GPlus on Instagram, he emphasized the importance of the song saying, “*Moy morile eitu gaan he bajibo kintu*” or “When I die, this song should play.” Clearly, *Mayabini* was deeply meaningful to him, both personally and culturally.
### Fans Fulfill His Final Wish
In a touching tribute to the late singer, hundreds of fans gathered outside Garg’s residence in Guwahati over the weekend. Before his mortal remains were taken to Sarusajai Stadium for public homage, admirers paid their respects by singing the evergreen song *Mayabini*.
Videos shared online capture groups of fans performing the song with heartfelt emotion, fulfilling Garg’s final wish and celebrating his enduring legacy.
### Clarification on His Passing
Reports clarified that Zubeen Garg was swimming along with friends while wearing life jackets after returning to the shore on a yacht. He went swimming again and unfortunately suffered a seizure attack which led to his untimely demise.
Zubeen Garg was not only a celebrated singer and actor but also a philanthropist. At the time of his passing, he was in Singapore serving as the Cultural Brand Ambassador for the North East India Festival, which has now been canceled following his death.
