Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has praised Moises Caicedo after the midfielder impressed during Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
The two sides met in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, November 1. Chelsea looked dominant away from home, with Joao Pedro’s 34th-minute goal—capitalizing on an error by Mickey Van de Ven—proving to be the match-winner.
The visitors could have extended their lead through chances created by Enzo Fernandez, Pedro Neto, and Reece James. However, Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made eight crucial saves to keep the scoreline respectable.
Moises Caicedo was outstanding in midfield. The 24-year-old not only assisted Pedro’s opener but also created two key chances. According to FotMob, he made two tackles, five interceptions, and seven recoveries throughout the match.
Carragher was full of praise for Caicedo, saying, “It’s all about Caicedo. He’s an absolute monster in midfield. He makes challenge after challenge and basically gets Chelsea that goal. It’s absolutely fantastic from Caicedo and exactly what they have deserved.”
He also compared Caicedo to Arsenal’s Declan Rice, calling them two of the best midfielders in the world right now. “I upset Chelsea fans not for the first time by saying Declan Rice was just ahead of this man [Caicedo]. But right now we are watching two of the best midfielders in world football, there’s no doubt about that. There’s no shame in being behind Rice, in my eyes. They’re both absolutely fantastic.”
This season, Caicedo has also impressed with his goal-scoring ability, netting four world-class goals from range and registering one assist in 14 appearances across all competitions.
Following Chelsea’s win over Spurs, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp offered his take on the Premier League title race. He believes Chelsea are back in contention this season and have the confidence to capitalize on other teams’ inconsistencies.
“They’ve got that confidence,” Redknapp said. “Chelsea are definitely back in the mix for the Premier League title. Arsenal are head and shoulders above everyone else, but the rest are really struggling. No one’s found consistency, and that’s why it’s up for grabs for Chelsea this season.”
Currently, Arsenal lead the Premier League table with 25 points from 10 games, seven points clear of second-placed Bournemouth, who have a game in hand. Chelsea sit fifth with 17 points, behind Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on whether Caicedo and his Chelsea teammates can maintain their strong form and challenge for the title.
