Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Liverpool are the only side that can stop Arsenal from winning the Premier League title this season. Despite this, he still backs the Gunners to get the job done, praising their balanced squad.
Speaking on NBC Sports, Neville highlighted the importance of squad depth in a title challenge. He noted that Liverpool would be in trouble if they lost key players like Virgil van Dijk or Mohamed Salah during the season. However, he doesn’t see this being an issue for Arsenal, as they have reliable backups in every position.
Neville said,
“The reason I say I’m confident Arsenal will win the league is because you always think about what can stop a team. If Liverpool lost Virgil van Dijk or Mohamed Salah in previous seasons, they would be in trouble. But I can’t think of any player Arsenal might lose now that would mean they would lose the title — even the two centre-backs because of the summer signings. Every position is covered. Bukayo Saka was that player in the past, but Noni Madueke came in when he was injured.”
He added,
“Everywhere, they are properly doubled up with the same level of quality or only a small drop-off. So who’s going to take it off them? They would have to beat themselves not to win it. I don’t think Man City are going to get back to a level they’ve been at previously and come back at Arsenal. Pep Guardiola is a genius but he hasn’t got the players or the team playing at the level needed. Liverpool are the only team, but they would have to get back on track very quickly.”
Currently, Mikel Arteta’s side are seven points clear of Liverpool after 10 matches this season. The Gunners have conceded just three goals and kept a clean sheet in their last seven matches, showcasing their defensive solidity.
### Gary Neville: Arsenal Not Set to Break Points Record
Despite his confidence in Arsenal’s title charge, Gary Neville does not expect them to pick up record points this season. Speaking on his podcast on Saturday, November 1, he claimed that while the Gunners have star quality, their final points tally will be under 90.
He said,
“They’re not going to have to go and get 100 points, they’re not going to have to get even 90 or 95 points to win the league. Mid-80s, high 80s will win them this title, and they can do that.”
Arsenal’s highest points total in a Premier League season remains 90 points, achieved during their famous Invincibles campaign in 2003/04 — the last time the club won the league title.
