S S Rajamouli recently released *Baahubali: The Epic*, a combined version of *Baahubali: The Beginning* (2015) and *Baahubali 2: The Conclusion* (2017). With November here, all his focus is now on his upcoming ambitious film starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
There have been reports suggesting that the film, currently referred to as SSMB29, might be titled *Globetrotter*. However, other reports reveal that the name of the film has been finalized as *Varanasi*. Bollywood Hungama has learned from a reliable source that the team has officially locked in the title.
“The name of the film is indeed *Varanasi*,” the source confirmed. “It is said that the title rights were previously held by someone else, but S S Rajamouli’s team reached out and secured the rights. It is an apt title that aligns perfectly with the story of the film, which is why they were very keen on naming their film *Varanasi*.”
In addition, reports indicate that a grand announcement event for the film will be held on November 15 at Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad. Along with S S Rajamouli, the film’s lead actors Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran are expected to be present. Other key members of the team, including Oscar-winning music director M M Keeravani, will also join the event.
Fans will have the opportunity to attend this launch event in person, and it will also be live-streamed on JioHotstar for those who cannot make it.
*Varanasi* marks S S Rajamouli’s immediate next project following the global blockbuster *RRR* (2022). Starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, *RRR* became a worldwide phenomenon due to its compelling storytelling, powerful performances, and memorable songs. The song ‘Naatu Naatu’ notably won the Best Original Song award at the 95th Academy Awards.
With such a successful precedent, excitement for *Varanasi* is sky-high. The film has the potential to resonate not only across India and among the South East Asian diaspora overseas but also with a global audience at large.
