BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Flau’Jae Johnson scored 17 points to lead No. 5 LSU to a commanding 115-26 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday night.
Freshmen ZaKiya Johnson added 16 points, Bella Hines contributed 14, and Grace Knox chipped in 11 for the Tigers (2-0). Notre Dame transfer Kate Koval also made a significant impact with 16 points and a team-best nine rebounds.
Southeastern Louisiana (1-1) struggled offensively, failing to reach double figures until there were just 3:42 remaining in the third period. Mari Dangerfield led the Lions with eight points.
LSU maintained an aggressive offense throughout the game as Southeastern Louisiana shot a poor 19.2 percent from the field (10 of 52) and committed 29 turnovers. The Tigers capitalized, registering 29 layups among their 50 field goals and outscoring the Lions 42-0 in fast-break points and 42-9 off turnovers.
The Tigers dominated in several statistical categories, holding a 22-5 advantage in second-chance points, a 74-8 edge in points in the paint, and a 58-14 lead in bench points. LSU coach Kim Mulkey frequently cleared her bench, yet the Tigers established commanding leads of 30-4 after the first quarter, 61-6 at halftime, and 91-13 by the end of the third quarter.
Throughout the first three periods, LSU held Southeastern Louisiana scoreless for five stretches of more than a minute, including an extended run of 10 minutes and 37 seconds.
Up next, Southeastern Louisiana will face Arkansas on November 13, while LSU travels to Georgia Southern on Saturday.
