While talking to PopCulture.com about Happy’s Place Season 2, Rex Linn got candid about working with his fiancée, Reba McEntire. The couple—who announced their engagement in September—star together in the NBC sitcom, bringing their real-life chemistry to the screen.
They first met more than 30 years ago, each navigating their own relationships but keeping in touch on and off over the decades. They reconnected in 2020, shortly after McEntire lost her mother, and began dating during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Since then, they’ve been inseparable—and now that bond shines through in their scenes as Bobbie and Emmett on Happy’s Place.
At the end of Season 1, Bobbie (McEntire) and Emmett (Linn) realized they had feelings for each other and finally confessed. Season 2 kicked off on Friday, showing the pair still blissfully in love—though their constant late-night check-ins are driving Isabella (their protégé on the show) nuts. By the episode’s close, Bobbie and Emmett share another sweet kiss, cementing their status as an official couple.
Linn says it’s “great” to work alongside McEntire and play off their real-life dynamic. “A lot of people think, ‘Oh my god, working with your significant other all day and then going home—must be a drag,’” he admits. “But it’s a lot of fun. We get to bring a little bit of home to the screen. When we have our scenes together, we’re really comfortable—and I think that shows.”
Co-star Tokala Black Elk (who plays waiter Takoda) couldn’t agree more. During a joint interview with Linn, Black Elk chimed in, “Between us, they’re cuter than heck.”
As Season 2 unfolds, there’s plenty more to look forward to between Bobbie and Emmett. Now that Steve knows Emmett’s big secret, complications are bound to arise—and that’s exactly what will keep McEntire and Linn on their toes.
New episodes of Happy’s Place air Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and stream the next day on Peacock.
