I am writing to express my extreme disappointment in the Elections Commission’s recommendation to end mail-in voting.
Mail-in voting increases voting access for every party and makes exercising our constitutionally protected right to help chart the course of politics easier for all. There is no evidence that mail-in voting increases fraud.
In fact, the great state of Maine recently voted against restrictions on voting, and their state boasts one of the highest voter participation rates in the country.
A matter with such grave consequences for voter turnout should go before the people as a ballot measure. I’m confident it would be supported by the majority of citizens.
I hope officials reconsider this backwards, and frankly insulting, recommendation. Tuesday’s election results show that we the people are interested in defending our democracy, not feeding the GOP’s big lie about election fraud.
