The Buffalo Bills defense, already limited to just four healthy edge rushers to start Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, was further depleted when rookie Landon Jackson suffered an injury early in the first quarter. Jackson was ruled out with 11:33 remaining in the first after grabbing his knee and being helped off the field.
Jackson, the Bills’ third-round draft pick this year (72nd overall) out of Arkansas, stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 264 pounds. Despite his physical attributes, he had seen limited action in his rookie campaign, with six healthy scratches so far. Prior to this game, Jackson played 16 defensive snaps and five on special teams against the New England Patriots in Week 5, and 12 defensive snaps plus five on special teams the following week against the Atlanta Falcons.
Notably, the Bills lost both of those games, which were their only defeats of the season before facing Miami.
The 22-year-old Jackson brings a history of knee injuries to the field. He suffered an ACL tear to his left knee during his sophomore year at Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana, Texas. Later, in his freshman season at LSU, his year was cut short after just five games due to another ACL tear in the same knee, requiring surgery. After that, he transferred to Arkansas, where he played three seasons for the Razorbacks.
Following his injury on Sunday, Jackson was quickly ruled out of the game, which left the Bills’ defense shorthanded once again, according to NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe.
