PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — TJ Long delivered a spectacular performance, scoring 40 points as Vermont defeated Brown 89-84 in double overtime on Sunday.
Long also contributed 13 rebounds and three steals, leading the Catamounts to their third consecutive win this season. TJ Hurley added 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. Noah Barnett chipped in with 10 points to support the Vermont effort.
For Brown, N’famara Dabo recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Brady Loughlin added 16 points, while Jeremiah Jenkins finished with 11 points and 10 assists. Jenkins’ two critical free throws at the end of the second half sent the game into overtime.
Brown held a lead with just 25 seconds remaining in the first overtime period, but Hurley’s layup tied the game at 80. Vermont then closed out the contest on a 9-4 run to secure the victory.
The Catamounts improve to 3-0, while Brown falls to 0-2.
