It’s safe to say that much of the world’s semiconductors rely on designs manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC). At the latest estimate, TSMC accounts for about 64 percent of the world’s contract chip manufacturing. These designs are also powering many of the AI technology breakthroughs being developed by NVIDIA.
Given this strong partnership, it’s little surprise that NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang had only praise for TSMC during its recent company Sports Day. In fact, Huang went so far as to credit TSMC as essential to NVIDIA’s existence. As reported by Focus Taiwan, Huang made these comments while attending TSMC’s Sports Day at a stadium in Taiwan this past weekend.
Huang spoke to TSMC’s central role in NVIDIA’s history and its global impact:
> “Without TSMC, there is no NVIDIA today. You are really the pride of Taiwan; you are also the pride of the world. Thank you for helping me build NVIDIA.”
NVIDIA and TSMC have maintained a close collaboration for nearly 30 years. Throughout this time, NVIDIA has leveraged TSMC’s technical breakthroughs in its own products, including the development of NVIDIA’s cutting-edge Blackwell AI chips.
With such a long and successful partnership, it’s clear that Huang values the relationship highly—especially as TSMC and the Taiwan region navigate ongoing discussions and occasional tensions with the United States government over trade and exports.
TSMC’s continued innovation and partnership with global technology leaders like NVIDIA underscore its vital role in shaping the future of the semiconductor industry.
