**Bhopal Gears Up for Navratri Amidst Challenges of Dilapidated Roads**
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Navratri is back with Goddess Durga’s blessings for the state capital, bringing joy and devotion to thousands of residents. However, the city’s dilapidated roads continue to cast a shadow over the vibrant celebrations.
Despite the difficulties experienced during Ganesh Chaturthi in transporting Lord Ganesh idols, authorities seem to have taken little action. Devotees and organizers are once again left to navigate pothole-filled, dusty streets while bringing over 3,500 Goddess Durga idols to pandals this Sunday and Monday.
**Poor Road Conditions Hamper Festive Spirit**
Roads in areas such as Itwara Road, DIG Bungalow, Budhwara Square, Azad Market Road, and Maida Mill Road remain in extremely poor condition. The damaged surfaces make even walking a challenge, let alone transporting the grand idols. It is no surprise that devotees struggled with the broken roads and uneven terrain during the Navratri preparations.
Last month’s Ganesh Visarjan had posed similar difficulties, frustrating many devotees. With no major repair plans announced by the administration, the same challenges are expected during the upcoming Visarjan processions post-Navratri.
**BMC Takes Steps to Improve Conditions**
Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials stated that over two lakh potholes have already been filled. However, civic authorities are waiting for the rainy season to end before starting the asphalting of severely damaged roads.
In addition, the BMC has deployed ward-level sanitation workers to clean pandals early each morning. Eight dedicated vehicles are actively collecting puja material from pandals and transporting it to recycling plants for the proper disposal of incense sticks, powders, and other biodegradable materials.
Mayor Malti Rai has assured residents that safe and accessible plans are being prepared for the Visarjan processions to ensure a smooth and secure experience for all.
**Enhanced Police Safety Measures During Navratri**
To ensure security across nearly 3,000 pandals citywide, the police have implemented special safety measures. Additional night patrols are in place, and “No Entry” zone timings have been adjusted for the next 10 days.
ADC (Police) Basant Kaul confirmed that heavy vehicles are now permitted to enter the city only between midnight and 6 AM, replacing the previous 11 PM cutoff time. These measures aim to maintain order and protect devotees during the busy festival period.
As Bhopal celebrates Navratri with faith and fervor, hopes remain that the administration will soon address the long-standing infrastructure issues to enhance the festive experience for everyone.
