The Buffalo Bills followed up an impressive win over the Kansas City Chiefs — their long-time AFC nemesis — with an almost inexplicable flop against the Miami Dolphins in Week 10, losing 30-13 on the road.
Quarterback Josh Allen did not pull any punches regarding who was to blame following the defeat, which dropped the Bills to 6-3 on the season and put them 1.5 games back of the AFC East Division-leading New England Patriots.
“I gotta be better. I gotta be better in the protection game and the pass game and the run game, all of it,” Allen said. “Anytime you turn it over three times, two in the red zone — and really you could count that last one driving, kind of going into the red zone — so that’s a recipe for disaster.”
Allen finished the day completing 28 of 40 passes for 306 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He was sacked three times for a total loss of 17 yards. Additionally, both Allen and running back James Cook lost fumbles to the Dolphins’ defense.
While the three turnovers were key to Buffalo’s defeat, the Bills’ inability to stop the Dolphins’ run game was equally damaging. Miami rushed the football 32 times for a total of 197 yards on the ground.
Running back De’Von Achane led the charge with 22 carries for 174 yards and scored both of Miami’s rushing touchdowns. This dominant ground performance helped the Dolphins secure a 17-point victory.
The Bills will return to the field next Sunday in Buffalo for a contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
