Border czar Tom Homan announced on Friday that the Trump administration plans to send large teams of Border Patrol agents to Charlotte and New Orleans to lead upcoming immigration enforcement operations.
Appearing on “The Will Cain Show,” Homan explained that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) expanded enforcement posture reflects a significant shift in priorities.
“We’re going to a lot of cities, but I want to make one thing clear,” Homan told Will Cain. “ICE Director Todd Lyons oversees interior enforcement operations. Border Patrol is doing a great job with us.”
Homan highlighted that during the last four years, ICE deployed thousands of personnel to assist the Border Patrol whenever overwhelmed. “Now the border is the most secure border in the history of this nation because of President Trump,” he said.
He added that the administration must rely on Border Patrol agents to reinforce ICE efforts in cities across the country.
“Now we need their help because 10.5 million illegal aliens came to the border under President Biden. But add that to the 15 million already here,” Homan stated.
Homan also mentioned that the administration’s growing enforcement push will accelerate rapidly.
“As we hire 10,000 new agents who come online every month, you’re going to see more operations in more major cities, mainly sanctuary cities, because that’s where our biggest problem lies. Public safety threats are released every day, and we know it. So you’re going to see a lot more of this coming in most major cities across the nation,” he said.
Border crossings have plunged under President Donald Trump as the administration halted all migrant paroles for four consecutive months and cut southern border apprehensions by 93% compared to Biden-era averages, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data.
This decline marks a dramatic reversal from the chaos under former President Joe Biden, when tens of thousands of migrants crossed illegally each month. The Border Patrol released nearly 90,000 migrants into the country in May and June 2024 alone, CBP records show.
The turnaround began as soon as Trump returned to office and reinstated aggressive enforcement measures. He signed executive orders restarting border wall construction, deployed military assets to the southern border, paused refugee entries, and initiated steps to end birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants.
